Delicatessen is a journal of book reviews and literary criticism, specializing in texts from small, independent, non-profit, and university-affiliated publishers.

Our mission is to cultivate reception and readership for titles from noncommercial presses, broadly conceived, while supporting emerging and established critics. We pay our contributors.

Our editors honor the formal diversity of contemporary literature and encourage engagement with a text on the book’s own terms——irrespective of the dominant tastes of current and past vogues or the idiom(s) of critical trends. We are not the final word and we do not seek the hottest takes. We are omnivorous and voracious. We dream of honest, well-constructed delights.
